Why we founded Freelancer by Frey
After years in yacht recruitment, we recognised a growing gap in how the industry handles freelance and short-term crew placements. Many experienced crew now prefer flexible work, but the tools to connect them with the right opportunities — especially at short notice — simply didn't exist.
We created Freelancer by Frey to provide a more streamlined, transparent, and professional way for crew and employers to connect for freelance, relief, or seasonal roles. It's designed to complement traditional recruitment, not replace it — and to bring structure and trust to a part of the industry that has long relied on informal networks.
The platform reflects what we value most: efficiency, fairness, and people-first hiring — for both crew and employers.

After years of working on superyachts, we founded Frey Recruitment to help connect the right crew with the right yachts. As industry professionals we realised there was a need to create a space that recognises the reliance of experienced freelancers.
Charlotte Oddshammar
Co-Founder
Charlotte's first sailing experience was a transatlantic crossing. After 12 years as a yacht chef, she understands the challenges of freelance crew life— from last-minute cancellations to finding reliable coverage.
Gemma Cox
Co-Founder
Gemma worked as a chef and interior manager across yachts worldwide. She experienced firsthand how difficult it could be for crew to share work opportunities and connect with reliable professionals.
